SWAP THING
A Community Clothing Swap

Sunday, August 3, 2025

ICA San Francisco
345 Montgomery Street
San Francisco, CA 94104

A HAPPENING, AN ACTION:
12 - 4 PM

In partnership with host venue ICA San Francisco, Swap Circle, Reuse Alliance, Sustainable Fashion Alliance, and Mushi Wooseong James

INTERNAL: Art is the interpretation of our time expressed through different forms. Endless capital surplus (surplus for surplus sake) is killing the planet. Keeping in mind non-partisan initiatives to meet in universalisms.

IDENTITY: Comes from the comic “Swamp Thing.” Swamp Thing possesses a wide array of powers primarily centered around his connection to the Green, the elemental force governing plant life.

PROJECT: Beginning in SF, an indefinite happening to inspire a greater simplification of material goods, softly release our addiction from industry with a capital “I” with the ultimate goal of habitualizing healthy personal practices towards planetary health alignments.

GOAL: Apply regenerative theory into government, policy, organizational, experimental, systemic, cultural and pop cultural practice.

FOR MEDIA: Known for a values-driven community, greater San Francisco is a city of independent thinkers, upenders, and active citizens. We ask the tough questions. We create movements. We live our values. Inventor Aza Raskin posits, “How do we play the infinite game on a finite planet?” What kind of resilience must a community build to avoid disassociating from the greatest issues of our time. In response to one of the foremost thinkers of our planet's retrospective condition, a collaborative effort between Mushi Wooseong James, Micki Meng, Swap Circle, Reuse Alliance, Sustainable Fashion Alliance and host venue ICA SF respond to the swole of contemporary capitalism to look at how wearables can be reconciled; in other words, circulated, mended and recirculated without ecological overshoot and systemically destructive industry patterns. In a time where a great slowing of irresponsible circulation (and a quickening of responsible capital) is needed for planetary balance, how do we shift to a healthy eco-system after the failures of modernity? How do we change the habit of consumption? How do we consciously consume? How do we look at this issue as non-partisan and meet not on the Left, Right and moderate middle, but an avant-guardian center for which change is urgently needed?
